That Which I Am is That Which I do

My artistic practice has always been about life and auto-biographical; portraiture and self-portraiture, as well as abstract matter.
The work as a whole carries natural, spontaneous and universal qualites that make it characteristic.

I enjoy to create in a free manner; sometimes planning everything ahead, many times following my intuition. Oftentimes the work made with less thought and faster is the most authentic and the best.

I create single pieces or series both as photographs or drawings.

Around thirty I felt the need to research into eastern philosophies and spirituality. After a few years living in Paris, Galicia and Braga, I moved to Edinburgh where I created The Pigment Freedom Workshop- my own intensive drawing workshop. I also became very ill and went through a near-death experience which changed my perception of things. I was dwelling in a mystical and abstract sphere of channelled spiritual existence brought down onto paper, as if I had finally found myself.

Automatic drawing and painting became central to the art practice, as an extension and manifestation of Soul- a survival act- as I explain more or less clumsily in my videos (2021) that function as pieces of their own. While drawing am on a healing journey and a quest but also a meditation, a ritual and a celebration.

Through photography I don´t actively look for anything in particular; I sort of find what the subject matter will be as I go as this works best for me. Of course sometimes I have strong ideas I feel I must put into practice.

Performance, text, film&video, installation, soundart complement the body of work.

Humour has always been somewhat present in my practice too.
Am fascinated by Nature and this is today present in both the drawing and the photographic work.
